On 21 May 2021, the CEPI Secretariat attended the online seminar “National Recovery & Resilience Plans - What is at stake for local and regional authorities?”, organised by the URBAN Intergroup.
The event aimed at exchanging opinions and concerns about the role of local and regional governments in the preparation and implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility, which seeks to alleviate the economic burdens of EU Member States caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speakers of the event included: Ms Anna Lisa Boni, Secretary General of EUROCITIES; Mr Fréderic Vallier, Secretary General of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR); Ms Eleni Marianou, Secretary General of CEMR; Ms Céline Gauer, Director General - Head of the Recovery and Resilience Task Force at the European Commission (RECOVER); Mr Siegfried Muresan, Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and Co-Rapporteur on the Recovery and Resilience Facility; as well as Mr Jan Olbrycht and Mr Andreas Schieder, the Intergroup's President and Vice-President.
Key topics included the consultation and inclusion of regional stakeholders in the drafting of the national recovery and resilience plans; the issue of transparency in national fund implementation, and questions of structured and improved cooperation between local actors and (supra)national institutions.
